A Pleasantview Horror

Last week I decided that I wanted to play Sims.  Play just for fun! Which is something I don't get to do very often.  So of course my first instinct was to play an asylum challenge because, despite past experiences, I'm still clinging to the delusion that an asylum challenge is actually fun.  e__e

Then I thought I'd mix it up a bit by playing it with all elderly patients.  Like an old folks home.  Well... it seems there are a few things I didn't take into account when playing elder Sims right out of CAS with regular asylum rules.  But I'll get to that in a minute.  First...

I made 7 old people and one adult.

I honestly don't remember most of their names.  But it's not going to matter anyway.  D:  The playable sim is the guy named Doc.  I rolled for his aspiration in CAS and he got knowledge...

And a pain-in-the-ass of a Lifetime want!  This requires a lot of friends, maxed Charisma, and something like 8 or 9 Creativity points.  And the way I play, this is not something that can happen in just a few Sim days.

Anyway, I moved them into a house I built (and later turned into apartments because it was ginormous and there was an entire upstairs that didn't even get used for this).  While they were still in the Sim bin I family-funded them just enough to buy the place, with exactly 100 simoleons to spare.

Anyway, the relationships were all set to zero annnd.... we have lift off...

*sigh*   Old people and their small bladders.  This is where they spent 90% of the challenge!  They were always either jockeying for prime position at the toilet or standing in the bathroom vestibule waiting to get in to jockey for prime position at the toilet.

So of course the vestibule was where 90% of the pee puddles went.  Not sure I'll ever be able to look at that rug again...  It will remind me of blue urine for a very long time.

In the first couple of days it looked like things were't going to be very interesting because these old folk were just way too happy about stuff.

(Spoiler:  That changed.)

ANYWAY, the job that Doc needs for his LTW showed up in the newspaper on Tuesday.

And the first of SO VERY MANY chance cards showed up two hours after he got to work.

First day of work.  e__e

But since that morning's paper was still around, Doc just simply took the Journalism job again after he got home.  Later that night I set him to working on the skills he'll need for promotions, and since his fun was bottomed out I put him on the Karaoke machine to raise that and his creativity...

*facepalm*  This is my PLAYABLE sim, you all.

These two were pretty much enemies right out of the gate.  That's Knowledge on the left and Family on the right.  They went back and forth heart-farting each other and slapping each other.

And there was a LOT of this.   D:

Very late in the evening on the third day I realized the garbage bin had spawned roaches.  But not before Ms. Fortune got the flippin flu.  I got Doc out of bed to go spray them before anyone else got sick...

He got within 2 feet of Ms. Roach-Stompy Fortune and got it anyway!  And from hence forth everyone in the house just kept passing around the flu.  I even gave Doc the secondary aspiration of Family so he could make comfort soup, but by the time they all got some, the first person was sick again by just walking into the same room with one of the infected!  At some point I gave up on the soup.

FIRED AGAIN on the fifth day.

You'll notice that Doc's bladder is way on down there.  There was a line at the toilet when the carpool arrived and apparently he works used to work at a place without bathrooms.  e__e

This is my PLAYABLE SIM, you all!  D:

According to my notes I had Doc work on skills and friends over the weekend and he must have found the job in the newspaper again before Monday.

On the 6th day I saw the first Aspiration desperation animation (that's just fun to say)...

And she had her first therapist visit after a karaoke session.  As they do.

I think it was on the 7th day when Doc made a booty call to Brandi Broke.  He met her in the welcome wagon.

But since he needs a lot of freakin friends for promotions, I'm having Doc use the matchmaker for 1000 simoleon dates when he can afford it.  It's just a really fast way to get the relationship up and he gets a mood boost from it.

Theoretically.

It doesn't always go well...

I have no idea why.  e__e

Day 9 and I have only the second Sim crack.

By now my Grilled Cheese sim is being an idiot.  I think he made sandwiches ONCE...

Because he was way too busy maxing his enthusiasm in fitness.  *sigh*

Day 11.  Ms. Famly Sim looses it...

As does Mr. Knowledge sim.  Though for some reason I didn't see Von Ball.  Perhaps because Mr. Knowledge was too busy getting his ass whooped by Ms. Family every time he turned around.  (Hint: He's gonna get his ass whooped by her as soon as he turns around.)

This is day 12.  And he's ONLY up to the third tier in the career!  *sob*

He also has two days off from work at this point, so he might as well use that time for skills and friends.  There was 3000 simoleons in the bank at this point, so he's got enough for 3 dates...

And this is when I made a horrible, tragic, awful mistake.  My attention must have been elsewhere because I paid the gypsy every last cent they had for this date before I realized what I had done.

And he gets A FREAKIN TEEN!  D:

Well, they can still do non-date stuff to build friendship.  But Ginger is hardly worth the two extra friends he could have made that night!

Besides, they never even became friends anyway, because...

I had to pull Doc away from interacting with her to make some food when I realized Mr. Grilled Cheese was starving himself for the sake of muscular thighs...

And there's NO FREAKIN FOOD!  You people think I make this stuff up as a joke, but I'm really this bad a sims player!  D:

So let me summarize what's happening here:  They have ZERO money, zero food, an old guy is about to die of starvation, and Doc isn't scheduled to work for two days....

I had him order groceries anyway!  The delivery guy will take something out of the house as payment, but at least there will be food in the refrigerator...

HE TOOK THE REFRIGERATOR!  And that basket of food that cost them the refrigerator disappeared out of existence when Doc realized there was no where to put it!

I think I might have actually had a stroke at this point.

BUT, there's other food options!  I had Doc quickly call for pizza delivery

Fortunately she only took a wall lamp.

But it was too late.  :(  Doc had only just gotten the pizza "served" when Mr. Grilled Cheese bit the dust.

I knew this would be a shot in the dark...

No mas queso hombre.  *sigh*

So Doc buried him the yard the next day.

Hah, no, he's really digging for treasure because they need a refrigerator NOW.

He managed to find enough bones and rocks to buy the cheapest one in the catalog.  Which was appreciated by only two of the residents.

Day 14.  At least there's food on the table, right?  D:

But it was that night when I had the first one die of old age.

Ms. Family's death hit Mr. Popularity particularly hard...

And I finally get to see Cup Pal.

Von Ball finally made an appearance, as well.  Maybe because Ms. Family wasn't there anymore to kick Mr. Knowledge's butt between toilet breaks.

Without the constant butt-kickings he even had time to fall in love with Ms. Fortune.

DAY 15...   I have absolutely no hope for this (unless Doc manages 7 promotions today)...

OF COURSE!

Fortunately he only took the spice rack and a potted plant.

WHY ALL THE CHANCE CARDS?!

WHY CAN'T I EVER GET ONE RIGHT?!

If you haven't been keeping count, this is the 3rd time he's been fired.  It's day 15, he's starting over AGAIN, and I expect the old folk are gonna start dropping like flies.

His fun was tanked and I decided he might as well try for that last creativity point...

*HEADDESK*

Sure enough, at 6 PM on the 15th day they started lining up at Grim's hour glass.  First was Ms. Pleasure...

Then Ms. Fortune...

And finally Ms. Romance.  That left only Mr. Knowledge and Mr. Popularity alive...

Oh, and Doc.

At this point I was removing all the extra beds and chairs (per the rules) when the game crashed.  I almost decided to just give up then, but I reloaded and played this day again.

The three ladies still died at 6 PM, but the major difference is that a chance card never popped up and Doc was promoted to Obituary Writer.  The irony of that made me laugh like a lunatic for a good 5 minutes.  D:

On day 16 Mr. Popularity died.

And Mr. Knowledge actually managed to hang on until day 18.

So in the end... it was a huge waste of time!  *headdesk*

BUT, now I'm wondering exactly how the basic asylum rules could be altered to make it into a Retirement Home Challenge!  Some Lifetime Wants can be accomplished within the 15 or 16 days you have before the patients die of old age, but not many.  Maybe max enthusiasm in their predestined hobby?  I don't know... If anyone has ideas about that, let me know!  Because I'm hell-bent on doing an old folk's home where they don't all die before I can get to the end.  e__e

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends in the US!  And Happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish friends!  <3

Not a complete waste of time - you amused me, at any rate!

You could simply reset everyone's ages on a weekly basis or turn aging off, especially since that's allowed in the original asylum rules. (Granted, in the original rules it's meant to keep them all fm becoming elders in the first place, but the effect is the same.)

Turn off aging? Where's the fun in that? lol... Actually I kinda like playing against the clock. XD Though I do kinda want to play something that is tailored specifically for elders in an asylum-like setting. So part of the challenge would be to get a set goal accomplished before they all die of old age. Then again, when I play an asylum starting with adults there's still a chance they will die of old age. (it's happened...) :P

Glad it was entertaining! So not a waste after all. :D

The one time I played an asylum, my playable sim was 3 days from elderhood (~27 days in, IIRC) before their LTW job showed up in the newspaper, so I hear you w/r/t dying from old age in one of them!

I wonder if you could do this with a Plantsim as your controllable, as a caretaker for the elders. I might have to try that myself.

Or have your playable meet anyone's LTW (their own, or any of the residents' -- whichever seems most achievable), before everyone dies of old age. That would be like they were trying to make the oldsters happy.

Gave me a laugh, and after my father came knocking on the door and woke both me and Sarah up at 6.30 because he thinks it's 7,30 *grumble* I really needed it!

I started laughing at that potty rug and didn't stop.

I have a nursing home challenge... http://joandsarah.livejournal.com/40902.html
It was based on upgrading the home. It's probably a slack idea as no one but me has tried it lol.

Take no notice of me trying to edit by deleting and reposting I'm asleep.

OH! I'll have to look at your nursing home challenge and see what it's like. :D You must have posted that during one of my internet hiatuses, since I apparently don't remember it. <_< I almost didn't post this, but while I was looking through the photos I realized that I spent the time to take 200 of them so I might as well share. :P Glad you laughed! <3

Maybe go for maxing any career, not necessarily the LTW one? That way you'd have a choice of three on the first day. Also, you know there are things that tell you which chance cards will give you which result on the internet, yes? I live by those for apocs.

Hahahahaha. I love reading asylum stories, and I thought you had a great take on it with the old folks.

[identity profile] katmiesterk8.livejournal.com 2013-11-30 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahahahahaha. :D You just did NOT have any luck with those chance cards, did you?

How on Earth is it statistically possible for a single sim to be fired form the same job so many times??!

I like the old-folks home idea.

Oh man, though it was all quite dire it really made me laugh. I do love a crazy asylum challenge and this one hit the spot, and I agree with everyone else that it certainly wasn't a waste of time.

As always, reading your sim adventures makes me want to play the game. It's a good thing. :)
