Legacy of the Pharaohs: behind the scenes
I intended to have a cover image for this by now, but I will have to draw it by hand (as I can't find appropriate imagery for it elsewhere) so that's for next time. Hopefully that will coincide with the prologue I need to get busy on. >_> In the meantime I've got a few pictures from behind the scenes stuff. Narmer, my first pharaoh, has finally grown up and officially started the legacy.
But first...
--------------------------------------------

"I can't believe how boring this place is..."

"I came all this way to meet some kind of king, but all I've seen so far is sand..."

"Oh... a local."
Um, Iseret... that's the king's mother. Iseret is of course a simself Townie. Jess (mzyra) to be exact. I changed everyone's name to an Egyptian one, and I'll be using the new names for them from now on. Because it's too confusing to keep looking up who is which simself!

Besides simselves, the Townie pool consists of a few legacy sims so far...

And despite the name changes (this is Nechtu), they are all still very much their former selves....

"Edfu, man, do you have any idea how freaking HOT your bald wife is?!"

So very much still themselves... (Raiz there has 3 bolts with Khat. Khat and Edfu are Narmer's parents.)

This is when Edfu let Raiz know what he will do to his softer man-parts should he even THINK about kissing Khat again...
(BTW, everyone will eventually get a make-over. It's just that right now I have very few hairs and clothes to use for Townies!)

The simselves are taking to their new roles with varying degrees of enthusiasm...

Some more... um, enthusiastic than others...

And some are very actively doing their part as Royal Aspiration Fodder. (That's Narmer's little brother, Nefer and the simself who gave me permission to make her a teen, named Tai here. - thank you Gem!)
Even though I started with a blank template for the neighborhood, devoid of any of the usual Townies or bin sims, the game does have to generate some as they are needed. Like the Hobby Icons....

Who are still just as creepy, and far more strangely dressed. o_O
ANYWAY. Time to focus on the man of the hour. Who is due to grow up very soon...

*sigh* It's been a very long time since I've had a sim who consistently drops my commands to do whatever the hell they please... He's supposed to be doing Yoga for body points! But that lasted all of two seconds when he realized there were butterflies nearby...

*three jars later* Okay, fine. You don't want to skill? Then go greet walk-bys! You'll need a wife or two later...

I like how the market street turned out, and it's a nice (Egyptian looking!) backdrop for pictures like this...

At least until Edfu comes home from work. *facepalm*

"OH MY RA! It's the queen of England!"

"What?! Where?!"
"Yeah, she stole the newspaper!"

"Heh heh heh..."
"... Wait a minute... England hasn't been invented yet..."
(This is why Narmer has only 2 nice points. Both his parents are as mean as asps.)
Speaking of Narmer!

It's time for the boy to become a man and get this legacy started... (That's little sister Ibon with the outgoing points back there.)

Hm... Well, good thing I made an outfit that will work better for him....

And here it is! Also, King Namer and the Royal Chin.

And we have us a legacy! Complete with a one-room shack on a huge 5x5 lot. Narmer's LTW is to become a Criminal Mastermind, so he's off to work on that right away.

"Wowzie, the village women are FINE in this part of Upper Egypt!"
Okay, he needs a wife... Actually, for plot purposes, he needs a Great Royal Wife (the queen) and at least one lesser wife. Here's where things start to get delicate, so let me explain a little.
"Marriage" for the king was not exactly romantic. He was sent daughters and sisters from foreign rulers and even local high-ranking officials. Women he would have to marry having never set sight on them before. These marriages were basically treaties with these other countries as a way of cementing their political relationship (and trade privileges) with Egypt. The king would usually then pick from this harem a wife to be promoted to Great Wife. This choice was based on a number of reasons, depending on the king at the time. It might be because he truly loved the woman, or it was a princess with considerable sway on foreign relations. Most often the later.
Anyway, I'm going to present this as tactfully as possible in the story. But basically, the king is going to have several women in his house, and any number of them might have his children (this is entirely up to them and ACR). Since the Townie pool is rather sparse right now, I'm going to let Narmer pick only two (one of whom will be Great Wife) and there's also a CAS Townie who I made for the plot I've got pre-written for all of this.
This is all going to play out far differently in the story, so enjoy the HUGE SPOILERS ahead. >_<

I had him invite over the 6 women who were at the top of his chemistry panel. The most determined ones didn't waste any time trying to earn his favor. Out of these three (they kept him standing there for hours, passing him around like a hot potato), two of them have 3 bolts for Narmer...

But bolts didn't matter! As Rai and her measly two bolts managed to finally break into the queue with some physical contact of her own. He was getting a lot of flirts and hugs from every one of them...

Then Serhat upped the ante. o__o
Pink hearts started flying all over the place after this. Just to keep things SANE, I decided the first two "in loves" would be the ones. And the one with the highest chemistry would become Great Royal Wife.
And the winner is:

"I'm the queen then, Narmer? Queen of what, exactly? Four walls and a dirt floor?"
Congratulations to Esi... I guess. >_>

It turns out Esi is freakin RICH. She brought 13,000 simoleons into the family, and I was able to start building the Royal Palace right away. (It's a work in progress...)
The bigger shock was finding out what Esi's job is....

:D Criminal Mastermind! SO PERFECT. It explains a lot though....

Like why she's been going around handing out big screen TV's like candy.
Anyway, besides Esi, there are two more women in the house as well. I won't reveal their roles just yet, because I need to save something for the story. SO... more spoilers.
From left to right:

Neithhotep, Queen Esi, and Zahra.
Neithhotep is the sim I made in CAS and Townie'fied specifically for the plot, while Zahra is the other simself Townie. (I used 'famlyfunds' to take away the money Neithhotep and Zahra brought into the house because I think the circumstances go beyond what "fair" legacy play would allow. Not that I'm strictly following the rules, but I want it to be a challenge, too.)
Anyway, the queen being the queen, her duty right now is to give us a male heir...

And I get the chance to see if the maternity nightgown I made works right. :D

Esi had a VERY difficult time being pregnant! I was clicking like mad just to keep the poor thing ALIVE. She spent most of those 3 days asleep in her food because her hunger bar refused to get above near-starvation.
I would also like to mention I'm playing the one-way-street handicap. If there's an accidental death, then I'm just gonna have to figure out how to work it into the plot.

Longest three days of my (and Esi's!) life...
And I'll leave showing babies until next time. :D
But before I go....

It turns out King Narmer spends his evenings going around and stealing all the newspapers in town. o_O

And that's it! The legacy is chugging along, and I'm hoping to get the prologue done in the next week or so.
PS- Happy Valentine's Day!

And I'm really sorry my simself is being so standoffish. :(

Thanks! I'm having fun with the family so far and I'm anxious to finally get the story out there that I've had outlined for this for years now.
EDIT: I'll be making more custom wigs and clothes for everyone! So she'll likely get a makeover at some point.

"Miu" -- like a cat! :P Was Bast big in Narmer's Egypt? All I really remember about that particular era is the Palette of Narmer from art history... I'm much more up on Rameses.
You know what strikes me as funny about Miu is that IRL, I'm about as pale as you can get. (Well, without being an albino.) Of course, I totally knew the skintone change was coming, and she looks great! It's just amusing. :D

Oh, Rhys. *shakes head at him*
It's so hard to recognize the simselves with their new hair and coloring and clothes! I know I'm missing who some (or most) of them are, especially as the names don't always match up well.
The market street is totally of the awesome.
I assume if the Great Wife dies, that one of the others will take her place?
Can't wait to see the actual story, Fuzzy!
no subject
Yeah, if the Great Wife kicks off, then a lesser wife will step into her place. That's part of the reason they are there! Like the Vice President...
Thanks Rose! It's slowly but surely coming together.

I have no idea whose simself is whose; they look so incredibly different with new skin tones and whatnot.
Speaking of simselves, has my simself been around yet?
Also, that market looks pretty swell, Fuzzy. I'm really looking forward to what you write. ^-^

Thanks!

Oh, thank you Fuzzy!

And I was wondering whether you were going to let Rhys keep that hair - it is pretty much his trademark :P
Lol, nice work Di- I mean, Esi! :P
Looking forward to more stuff Fuzzy!

Thanks Jess!

I recognised Terry and Di and Rhys...most of the others, not so much. :)
Can't wait for the prologue, it's all so exciting!

The pictures are really hilarious. I laughed at the picture where one simself is smiling while the other is frowning. I guess the dresses can affect enthusiasm. Another part where I laughed is the market street picture with a smiling simself (I think) and the next picture where she stopped smiling, probably because the scene got blocked by Edfu coming home from work.
Hi Terry and Rhys! Glad to see them out and about.
Well, congrats to Esi! And I'm eager for the prologue!

I get all caught up in how ancient the the place actually looks, and then something so modern like a BUS interrupts the illusion. >_
no subject
I'm glad you said that was Jess, as I can't tell anyone, except for Rhys!
Oh wow criminal mastermind and flogging off electronic equipment which hasn't yet been invented, she must be using the Tardis!
no subject
lol I wouldn't put the tardis thing past her.

However, as Di is awesome and the reason I am even here in this comm, Serhat should be happy to bow down to Esi. :P (She probably plans to bang one of Esi's sons, though.)
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS OMG.

There are still a lot of pharaoh's to go!

Hee, Narmer certainly looks to have an awesome personality, and I love his chin. He’s a very handsome sim. And it looks like my simself agrees. XD I’m actually really happy that she’s Great Wife, even though I know that wasn’t necessarily the “best” position to be in as political intrigue increased. And I’m sorry about the girls, honest.
Somehow I’m not surprised she’s a Criminal Mastermind, and as for handing out electrical products, she’s not doing it to be contrary or annoying, oh no. She’s saying “I know that you have this hood looking as authentic as you can, but you will get townies who insist on giving 32” plasma TVs to your sims. The best thing you can do is delete them from their inventories. Here, let me help you practise that.” That is it, honestly.
But like I say, I am enjoying seeing all of these pictures immensely and I can’t wait to start reading the legacy properly. :D

The chickens! Let me look... okay they are by Windkeeper at TSR (http://www.thesimsresource.com/artists/Windkeeper/downloads/browse/category/sims2-objects/search/chicken/). (you will probably have to be logged in to view that search result) There's a nice variety of poses and colors! And I think you can find them elsewhere (http://paysites.mustbedestroyed.org/booty/ts2/tsr/windkeeper/objects/animals/).
You have no idea how thrilled I was to discover Esi has three bolts with Narmer and THE ROYAL CHIN. :D And yes, I'm afraid she's not in the best overall position, being the first queen and all. The circumstances are a lot different in the story, as you'll see. You did say I could do anything with her, right? >_> But I had this plot worked out years ago, and I hadn't exactly planned to use simselves at the time... so be warned. It's not all gumdrops and rainbows, is all.
I love Narmer. Royal Chin and all. I wanted someone unique looking, and someone who had those strong facial features so he didn't look like a pushover. The guy is a warrior after all. I was prepared to make his parents have 10 kids until I got one with just the right look, but they gave me what I needed right out of the gate. <3
Thanks Di! I am playing like made to get through this first generation (as I need to know who my "players" are for the story). OH, and don't worry about the girls! I am happy to report Queen Esi FINALLY managed to produce a boy late last night. I nearly wept from relief. The plot that involves the crown going to a lesser wife's son is for later, after all! :O

And it's amazing all the hard work you've put in, it looks like it's really paying off :) Can't wait to see more of what you're up to!
Totally fun to see all the Simself ala Egypt too - is that me in the market? It looks like me. I claim it's me! Anyway, yaaaaay FUZZEH!

I'm excited too! The total lack of appropriate CC is making this a challenge, but I'm so happy to finally be getting it done. Thanks Gin!

Am I right in saying that my simself is in picture 9? Has she got an Egyptian name too? :D
I am so looking forward to this legacy and hopefully I'll be able to escape lurkerhood now and then to comment.
no subject
No, I think that's actually Katy's simself, Katesch. Yours is named Scharei. She's being shy about walk-by duty, but I see her at the market all the time. I'll find a pic for you! I took all these photos of the simselves, and realized later I have no idea who is who. lol
Thanks Shadey!

And hee hee @ the inappropriate dress... freakin' hobbyists... I believe I had one spawn in that exact same sartorial nightmare x) one of the follies of playing a [historically] themed game/'hood and why I would not have the patience, lol :D I'll leave that to the experts...
