This is the Trailer Park Challenge, or...  Livin' la Vida Redneck?  Still working on trying to come up with a good title for this challenge.  (though now that I've just thought of it, I really kinda like LLVR!)  Anyway, I'm just gonna pick up where I left off in part one!

BAYBEE TIEM

It's a girl!  I named her Dixie Hicks.  She's got her daddy's brown hair (as I'm sure all the kids -that are his- will) and her mama's gray eyes.

And they still don't have a crib.  D:

Now that Jane is ready for impregnation again, I decided to have her call up her old pal (she's known him since yesterday) Patrick.  He was a blind date that a well-meaning friend thought she'd get on well with and I was keen on his red hair and his face template.

So when Bubba left for work, I discovered something very annoying...
I have that freakin BV glitch where my sims can't call NPCs they know!  I forgot to reinstall the fix after I reinstalled the game.  e__e

Well, I can work around this.  I know by his clothes that Patrick is a gardener.  I'll just have Jane call and hire a gardener and it should be him...

Sure enough, it was Patrick who pulled up out front that morning!  They don't have any plants to speak of (except for the fake roses next to the porch), and since he and Jane are already friends I should get that "I'm done working, do you want to hang out" pop-up NPCs throw at you.

Jane was right there to toss a few flirts his way just to make sure he got the gist of what we were wanting.

But then he said, "What is this a joke? You don't even have any plants!" and he left right away.  D:

Son of a diddly!  Well, we'll just have to get a plant at some point and try again.

In the meantime, these two took matters into their own hands and ACR gave me another lullaby.

Life marches on (even in the trailer park) and it was time for baby Dixie to become toddler Dixie...

Wow.  I can't even begin to dissect these genetics.  We'll just call her a "good mix" and leave it at that.

Anyway, Dixie is (of course) a Gemini, with the exact same personality spread as both parents (who have identical personalities).  OH, and I need to point out something about the kids in this challenge per the rules:  NO pre-rolling for aspirations!  They don't get that until their teen birthday, and there's a very good reason why.

From the rules (I swear I'll get these posted soon!):

  • Children can be legitimate, or from any number of “genetic donors”.   Including alien abduction and extramarital affairs.
  • Children born to another playable Sim who is not part of the main challenge house do not count, even if they are fathered by the heir.
  • Adoption is acceptable, but the child must be adopted as an infant.
  • Children should be allowed to do whatever the heck they want!  You can guide them towards food, the tub, and a bed when they need it, and homework when it’s not been done, but making them do things they do not find fun is just mean, you all.
  • Teenagers are just completely uncontrollable.  Literally.  When a child becomes a teen you are no longer allowed to give them ANY commands!   You read that right: none.  In fact don’t even click on them so you aren’t tempted!
  • You are allowed to give a teen one command right after they age up in order to send them to a dresser to plan their outfit and/or to a mirror to change their appearance.
  • Aspirations cannot be rolled for a child until they become a teen.  Then you roll a dice or use whatever randomizing technique you usually use to determine which one they get.
  • Knowledge Sims are immediately disqualified for heir.
  • However, unlike the other teens, you ARE allowed to give Knowledge Sim teens up to 5 commands a day, BUT these can only be skilling related!  If it doesn’t earn skill points, you can’t tell them to do it.
  • Knowledge Sims are the only ones allowed to leave the house early (before adulthood) and go to college, but they must have 3 scholarships before they can go!  (you can use an extra command to make them call and apply for scholarships, or get on the computer to apply)
This gets more insane all the time, doesn't it?   Haha.

With a toddler in the house now, and Bubba on his way out the door for work, I had Jane call her good friend Kevin and invite him over because she was in desperate need of sleep...

And because nannies are not allowed (as if they could afford one!) I was hoping Kevin would put Dixie in the crib (that they now finally own) when she got tired.

HECK NO.  e__e

Bubba came home from work pretty soon after and I was able to use his paycheck to buy the poor baby a pet mat to sleep on.  She also got a bunny head to play with, and I gave them a radio.

At this point I realized how far into the red Jane's aspiration meter is!

Since Kevin sucks at child care, I decided he gets to be Jane's aspiration fodder.  e__e  The want that will help her the most at this point is "Ask Sim on Date" and since Bubba is busy with earning the charisma points he needs to become a Record Store Clerk, Kevin gets the job...

He agreed to meet her at Wal-Mart.  :D  One of the rules is that all their clothes and food shopping can only be done at Wal-Mart.  Not that Jane has money for either.  They've got a whole 30 simoleons in the bank right now...

*HEAD DESK*  Make that 20 simoleons in the bank right now!

Gah, it's just as well.  There has to be a photobooth photo of every heir and their spouse in the trailer anyway.

By the way, Jane IS very pregnant right now!  I have that "wear anything while pregnant" hack (for my Egypt legacy) and they can't afford a dresser right now so I can make her manually change into maternity clothes.

There are changing rooms here at Wal-Mart though!  So she can look as pregnant as she really is.  A fact that Kevin finds hilarious, obviously.

JEEZ.  The date went from "Good" to "Dream Date" with ONE romantic hug!  :O  Good, I can make Jane end it now and get back home then.  She's back in a good mood and that earns her a bouquet they can sell.

o__o  I've never seen this before!  I guess because I make my sims walk everywhere to avoid waiting for a taxi.  I thought it might have to do with the Unsavory Charlaton being somewhere on the lot...

But I couldn't find him, so I'm gonna say THIS is the reason.

And then Jane managed to dump her maternity clothes during the cab ride home!  Grr.

*much eye rolling*
Thanks Kevin.

Aw fiddlesticks!  They have 75 simoleons and Bubba isn't scheduled to be back at work for 2 days!

Thankfully there's some leftover watermelon in the fridge.   But that's not going to last long.  D:

They need a more permanent solution for food, so Jane might as well get started on a garden (her new favorite hobby, whether she likes it or not).  There was just enough for 3 tomato plants...

And a one-click pond (in retrospect I should have used the smallest water tool instead of the medium one).  Which leaves them ZERO simoleons.  It's more than a sim week into this challenge!  By now my sims usually have everything they need and money to spare.  NOT HERE.  Awesome.

It's going to be a while before the tomatoes are ready, but Bubba can at least get busy on HIS new favorite hobby and hopefully put some food on the table tonight!

ACK.  What's he doing here?!  AW CRAP, I forgot to un-hire him!

What!?  You pulled up one chunk of weeds!  I'd hardly call that work deserving of pay!

The back porch light... okay fine, you can have that, I guess.

NOoo!  Not the tiny sculpture painting too!

He's gonna earn that tiny sculpture painting one way or another.

Oh heck no.... Patrick the Gardener is lining up some very inappropriate actions in Jane's queue right in front of her stinky husband!  Time for Jane to send him on his way...

WHAT IS WRONG WITH SIMS?

After a shower, I sent Bubba back outside to try to catch some food.  Please note that he now has a Bronze fishing badge, yet he has only caught ONE EFFING BOOT.  Well, at least the badge means he can use different bait.  That should help.

(Those other items are things he dug up.  I'm not allowed to sell them out of his inventory, but they CAN sell them at the yard sale they are allowed to have in the summer... more about that next time!)

Gaw dang finally!  And just in time, too.  The watermelon is long gone and everyone is starving...

After the wait, this is probably going to be the best Bass With Squash any sim has ever eaten...

OR NOT!

Hey, I can guarantee it tastes better than that boot, Bubba.

Later that night Dixie is ready to grow up...

She's "interesting" looking, that's for sure.  Hopefully her personality will soon follow suit and I'll feel compelled to pay more attention to her.  D:

And at some point after everyone but Jane was in bed...

"Hey y'all!  Come an' look!  We got us a boy here!"

Named Clyde Hicks, he's got brown hair and his daddy's green eyes.  (I think)

The next morning, Bubba and Dixie leave the house.  Leaving Jane alone and not pregnant.

Time to try ONE MORE FREAKIN TIME with Patrick the Gardener.  I wasn't sure when he was scheduled to show up again, so I wondered if Jane could call and cancel his services, then immediately hire him back so he'd come right over...

But apparently all she had to do was hire him again (despite the fact that he's still technically "hired") and he was willing to come on over.

Of course the Hicks still have ZERO simoleons, so he's going to end up taking something...

THE BUNNY HEAD.  Fine.  e__e  Get in the freakin bed, Patrick.

Aaand, just to make me hate him a little bit more, this took 3 tries!  While little Clyde screamed his head off in the next room because he was in a dirty diaper.

But we FINALLY have a red headed (maybe) little bast-uh, blessing on the way.

And Bubba finally reached the highest level of the Slacker career that he's allowed to reach.

With the money they can finally put some food in the fridge!

So it's off to the food section at Wal-mart!  OH, one of the rules is that they can't call for grocery delivery.  I asked one of my in-laws what she thought about groceries being delivered right to your door and her reply was, "Shoot.  I guess that would alright and all, and probably expensive!  They'd probably mess it up, too.  Bring me regular Mountain Dew when I ordered the diet.  Stuff like that.  I can't drink regular Mountain Dew."

(I'm not making this up!)

That's why we go TO Wal-Mart and buy the kind of Mountain Dew we like, y'all!  We usually also need to buy tarps for the leaky roof and dog wormer at the same time, so it's just convenient.

And because I know you all LOVE it when I end an update with a birth or birthday!  We'll leave with Clyde's toddler cake (which will go into someone's inventory so it stays good because they might need it later!).
